Brest Oblast to start making expanded polystyrene with assistance of Chinese investments

14/05/2026 11:57

Production of expanded polystyrene with the use of Chinese investments is being set up in Brest Oblast, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Batsenko told BelTA.

China is one of the main foreign trade partners for Brest Oblast. Over the past five years enterprises in the southwestern region doubled their export to the People’s Republic of China. A positive trend has been observed this year as well. The growth rate reached 112% in January-March. Brest Oblast intends to increase the volume of shipments to China.

“We have signed cooperation agreements with four Chinese provinces: Hubei, Anhui, Shanxi, and Liaoning. Last year our delegations visited Liaoning and Anhui. A number of agreements were concluded, including those on building greenhouses in compliance with the 4th and 5th technological paradigms. They will be built at the Berestye greenhouse complex. Design and estimate documentation has been developed, and a contractor is being selected. I think we should be able to set up the first 1.5 hectares of greenhouses this year,” Mikhail Batsenko said.

In his words, visits of a delegation of Brest Oblast official and business circles to Shanxi and Hubei provinces are planned for this year. “We need to work on business contacts. We do not travel as tourists. We should definitely conclude new trade and economic agreements as well as investment contracts to attract Chinese capital to Brest Oblast. A number of projects are currently being developed,” the deputy head of the oblast administration noted.

A list of manufacturing projects is being implemented in Brest Oblast with the involvement of Chinese investments. “Expanded polystyrene will be produced among other things. The project is already at the stage of equipment delivery now. Testing will be carried out in the near future. We are working on a number of other new projects that will allow us to manufacture more products together with our Chinese partners,” Mikhail Batsenko summarized.
