Lavrov to visit Belarus’ Brest on 21-22 November

MOSCOW, 21 November (BelTA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to pay a working visit to Brest, Belarus, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“On 21-22 November, Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to Brest to attend a joint meeting of the boards of the Russian and Belarusian Ministries of Foreign Affairs,” Maria Zakharova said.

“The participants of the upcoming event will continue to coordinate approaches to cooperation with the global majority in multilateral formats with a focus on the SCO and BRICS, as well as joint efforts to counter the judicial and sanctions aggression of the collective West,” she said.

According to Maria Zakharova, the meeting will result in the adoption of the relevant resolution and the approval of the plan of Belarusian-Russian ministerial consultations for 2025. “The ministers are also set to sign a joint statement on a common vision of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century, and also a bilateral declaration on strengthening the role of international law and guidelines on the qualification of unilateral coercive measures as unlawful, and also ways and means to counteract, mitigate and compensate for the negative consequences of such measures,” she said.

“The program of the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov envisages a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart to exchange views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation and international agenda, and also foreign policy coordination on multilateral platforms. Special attention will be paid to diplomatic support of integration processes within the Union State, including the preparation of the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State scheduled for early December 2024” the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“The program of the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov envisages a visit to the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, a flower ceremony at the monument to its defenders, who were the first to put up resistance to the Nazi invaders,” Maria Zakharova added.
